Globe building 900 cell sites

Globe Telecom Inc. has partnered with tower companies to build 900 cell sites in support of the government's ICT infrastructure initiative, the telco disclosed on Wednesday (Sept. 9, 2020). Already, the telco’s partnerships with Aboitiz InfraCapital Inc. (AIC), ISOC-edotco, Transcend Towers Infrastructure (Philippines), CREI Philippines (CREI) and Frontier Towers & Associates (FTA) have advanced to active acquisition and build phases, announced Globe Chief Finance Officer and Chief Risk Officer Rizza Maniego-Eala. “The partnerships with towercos will greatly complement the company’s target in expanding its capacity and coverage throughout the country," she elaborated. Globe finalized a pole lease agreement with AIC, a subsidiary of the Aboitiz Group and plans to increase its footprint by about 200 sites in more parts of Cebu, Davao, and Subic. The telco will likewise complete 300 macro sites for deployment in North Luzon and South Luzon. An addition, it will assign 400 sites to cover Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao within this year. The count will increase further as soon as Globe launches the pilot sites of these projects. ISOC-edotco, a collaboration between ISOC Infrastructure and edotco, a Malaysian based Tower Company (TowerCo) was the first to deliver a tower for activation. Todate, the telco is building more towers and are expecting to complete them shortly. Globe has also committed to be the anchor tenant in a build-to-suit agreement with Transcend Towers Infrastructure (Philippines), a subsidiary of American Tower Corporation, as well as in tower lease agreements with ISOC-edotco, CREI and FTA. “These infrastructure partnerships demonstrate our commitment to improve the network quality experience of our customers," stressed Maniego-Eala. Globe continues to increase its network capacity for clients' data services needs, from e-payments, e-government, telehealth and distance learning.
