BTS' 'Map of the Soul: 7' sets Guinness World Records title

K-pop boy band BTS achieved another Guinness World Records title just a little over two weeks after setting one for their online concert. 

This time, the seven-member idol group’s “Map of the Soul: 7” set the title for the best-selling album in South Korea.

Citing data from Korea’s Gaon Music Chart, Guinness World Records said the album that came out last February has sold 4.26 million copies as of June 2020, making “BTS the country’s best selling act of all time.”

With this, BTS broke their own Guinness World Record for the same title. In June last year, Guinness declared the boy band’s “Map of the Soul: Persona,” released in April 2019, as the best-selling album in South Korea with 3.39 million copies sold as of May 2019.

Gaon Music Chart declared “Map of the Soul: 7” as the No. 1 top-selling album in the first half of 2020 with 4.26 million copies sold.

Hanteo Chart named BTS as the top-selling K-pop artist in the male group category from January to June this year after “Map of the Soul: 7” sold 3.79 million copies based on its data.

In the US, the Nielsen Music/MRC Data’s 2020 Midyear Report showed that the album is No. 1 in the Top 10 Albums based on total sales with 552,000 copies. It also claimed the top spot in the Top 10 Physical Albums category with 528,000 copies in sales.

Just last month, Guinness World Records named BTS’ “Bang Bang Con: The Live” held on June 14 as having the most viewers for a music concert live stream.

“756,000 fans from over 100 countries tuned in to the online performance on June 14th, which included a 12 song setlist and some interluding chat between the seven band members, all being broadcast live from Seoul, South Korea,” according to Guinness.
