If you catch Covid-19 while traveling, this airline will cover your funeral and medical expenses

Don't worry, it is not a threat, but an attempt to convince customers to travel again.

As one of the first few airlines to operate during a pandemic, and the first airline to administer blood tests on-site for departing travelers, Emirates is now the world’s first airline to cover your medical expenses should you get Covid-19 during a trip, while you’re away from home. The airline also takes responsibility for the repatriation of your body and your funeral if you die. This industry-leading initiative is part of the airline’s confidence-boosting programs in the time of travel insecurity.

The UAE’s flagship carrier automatically offers this benefit to every customer of any class—economy, business class, and first class—bound for any destination, allocating 150,000 euros (around P8,700,000) for each customer’s medical expenses, and quarantine costs of 100 euros (P5,795) per day for 14 days.

It is immediately effective for those flying with Emirates until Oct. 31, with a validity of 31 days from the moment they fly the first sector of their journey. This means the insurance is still applicable for travelers who choose to fly to another city from their original Emirates destination.

There are no registrations or additional costs before flights, any customer who has been diagnosed with Covid-19 during his travel simply has to contact a dedicated hotline to avail of assistance and cover.

“Emirates is proud to lead the way in boosting confidence for international travel,” says Emirates group chairman and chief executive, HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum. “We know people are yearning to fly as borders around the world gradually re-open, but they are seeking flexibility and assurances should something unforeseen happen during their travel. Emirates has worked hard to put in place measures at every step of the customer journey to mitigate risk of infection, and we have also revamped our booking policies to offer flexibility.”
