Iligan City councilor tests positive for COVID-19

ILIGAN CITY - A city councilor here admitted that he was among those who tested positive for coronavirus disease on Sunday, August  30.

On Monday morning, City Councilor Noli Pardillo confirmed in a radio interview that he was patient IC277, and was among the three individuals who were added to the city's recorded cases of COVID-19.

Pardillo said he went to a hospital in Cagayan de Oro City on Saturday purposely for a regular general check-up and to be confined because he was experiencing colds, coughs and fever.

The 70-year-old councilor from Barangay Pala-o underwent swab testing, and after 30 minutes, the results turned out that he was positive for COVID-19.

Pardillo had to go back to Iligan City since the hospital in Cagayan de Oro City did not handle COVID-19 cases. Pardillo went directly to the Iligan City Quarantine Treatment Facility (ICQTF), and was later transferred to Mercy Community Hospital.

Pardillo said he was feeling better now. "I think I am on the road to recovery," he said.

While his history of exposure was still under investigation, Pardillo said he believed he was exposed twice to a police, who tested positive for COVID-19, during his weekly radio program, "Kapihan Sa Iligan." 

Pardillo encouraged those who have been in direct contact with him to undergo swab testing. He also urged Iliganons to restrict their movements and submit themselves to proper health protocols.

As of August 30, the Emergency Operation Center Health Cluster (EOCHC) here has recorded a total of 278 COVID-19 cases. The EOCHC said 39 of these were admitted, 106 were in the isolation facility, and five were under home quarantine. Iligan City has also recorded 119 recoveries and nine deaths due to COVID-19.
