Fil-Am Remy Martin pulls out of NBA draft

Martin to suit up with Arizona State for senior year

Remy Martin — Fil-American Remy Martin will suit up with Arizona State on his senior season in the US NCAA Division I following the announcement to withdraw from the NBA draft.

Fil-American Remy Martin will play his senior season for US NCAA Division I side Arizona State after deciding to withdraw his name from the NBA Draft on Sunday.

Martin had announced his decision to skip his final year with the Sun Devils in late-March, saying it was time to “take another step in making my dream a reality.”

But the school said Martin had a change of heart due to “some unfinished college basketball business.”

His coach Bobby Hurley, best known for his stint as Mike Krzyzekwsi’s floor general at Duke in the early-90’s, welcomed the news.

“I’m blessed to have the opportunity to coach Remy for one more season," said Hurley. “Remy will be one of the best players in college basketball this year and will be on a mission to lead Arizona State basketball in its pursuit of championships.”

The 6-foot-1 Martin, son of Pampanga native Mary Anne Macaspac, averaged 19.1 points and 4.1 assists for the Sun Devils last season, earning first team honors in the Pac-12 Conference.

His season was cut short after the US NCAA Tournament was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Arizona State was expected to be included in the 68-team field known as “March Madness” before the cancellation after posting 20 wins.

With Martin’s return, ESPN’s Jeff Borzello said the Sun Devils have become the favorite to win the Pac-12 conference next season.

Borzello reported that Arizona State also brought back Alonzo Verge Jr. and recruited a five-star high school standout in guard Josh Christopher.
