Abra, Baguio record highest number of new COVID-19 cases on Sunday

BAGUIO CITY – The province of Abra and Baguio City recorded the highest number of new cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) on Sunday, August 2.

Abra Governor Jocelyn Bernos confirmed nine new COVID-19 positive cases in the province on Sunday, with six of them coming from the town of Lacub, and one each from the towns of Bangued, Pidigan and Penarrubia. There are now 13 active cases in the province.

The province also reported its first death in an 84-year-old female from the town of Danglas on Saturday.

Bernos appealed to the public to stay calm, stay home and strictly follow the health protcols such as wearing of masks, social distancing and regular sanitizing or washing of hands.

Meanwhile, The Baguio City Health Services Office recorded seven new cases of on Sunday that added to 57 active cases,55 recoveries and 3 deaths, bringing total number to 115 confirmed cases.

The new patients were a 37-year-old female from Ferguson Road, a 49-year-old, 70-year-old and 60-year-old women and a 78-year old and 45-year-old men, all from Queen of Peace, and a seven-year-old girl from Bakakeng Norte/Sur barangay, who had contact with another patient.

The Department of Health (DOH)-Cordillera also reported five new cases in Benguet for a total of 27 active cases, and one from Kalinga for a total of 20 active cases.

The province of Apayao, Ifugao and Mt. Province reported zero new cases on Sunday and maintains the active cases of three, nine and two respectively.
