Jose Mari Chan on sending good vibes amid pandemic

The “Ber” months have arrived and that means Filipinos could expect a lot of memes featuring Jose Mari Chan popping up almost everywhere on the internet.

The latest of these is a humorous post referring to the pandemic which include the text “Malapit Na Ako Lumabas, Kayo Hindi Pa.”

The singer, who is best known for classic hits like “Christmas in Our Hearts,” “Can We Just Stop and Talk Awhile,” and “Deep in my Heart,” shared in a recent interview with “TV Patrol” his thoughts on the pandemic-themed memes.

“I find it amusing, except that when they put it on a negative point of view, when they say, ‘Malapit na ako, kayo matagal pa, you know it’s like negative, (like) hoping this pandemic will last for a long time. I wish that the messages of the memes will be more positive like ‘Malapit na, don’t worry! I know it’s darkness all over, but the dawn is coming.’”

Chan is one of the in-demand performers especially during Holiday season. But with the COVID-19 pandemic still raging in and around the country, the singer admitted he’s still adjusting to changes brought about by the new safety protocols.

“To be honest, there is none (gigs) at the moment because of the limited protocol na no concert, no get togethers. Even going to church, we have to content ourselves with hearing mass online,” he said.

The 75-year-old said he is more than willing to lend his talent to perform online for a good cause.

“I have not really received an invitation to do a concert online and I’ll be very happy to do it,” he added.
