COVID-19 sweeps through Tuguegarao PNP office

CAGAYAN – The Tuguegarao City chief of police, her deputy and 20 of her men, as well as all 32 detainees of the police station’s jail have been infected with the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

This was confirmed by Governor Manuel N. Mamba Friday, August 28, as he disclosed that Lt. Col. Jonalyn Tecbobolan, her deputy, and 19 personnel tested positive for COVID-19.

Worse, all 32 detainees of the station’s jail were also found to have been infected by the coronavirus.

Mamba made the announcement Friday, August 28, after the results of the swab tests were released.

The tests were conducted after a non-uniformed personnel (NUP) of PNP Tuguegarao tested positive for the virus. It was learned that she infected her immediate family, and later some of her colleagues.

The station has actually been on lockdown since August 16 after the NUP was said to have been exposed to her father, a retired policeman who tested positive for COVID-19.

“Nahawaan din ng COVID-19 ang asawa ng NUP at anak nito,” a source at the PNP Tuguegarao station added.

In a previous report, Tecbobolan said 22 policemen and two NUPs underwent swab testing on August 19 after having direct contact with the infected NUP.

Seventy other police personnel have been placed under home quarantine after extensive contact tracing.

And because of the widespread infection at the station, the Cagayan Provincial Police Office (CPPO) and Police Regional Office 2 (PRO2) in Tuguegarao City have augmented, and added forces to PNP-Tuguegarao to prevent it from being completely paralyzed due to COVID-19.
