National athletes and coaches can soon avail of discounts as mandated by law after the Philippine Sports Commission announced it is in the process of distributing IDs and booklets.
The discount documents will afford them 20 percent discount in goods, medicines, restaurants, transportations and other services.
The said benefit is part of the Republic Act 10699 or the National Athletes, Coaches and Trainers Benefits and Incentives Act that was passed five years ago.
“It was a collective effort of the PSC and a time to recognize the contributions of the national athletes and coaches, medalists or not, for their share of value formation for them to become better Filipinos,” Ramirez said.
“The Philippines takes pride to these heroes.”
The news came a few days after Philippine Olympic Committee president Bambol Tolentino confirmed that PH athletes and coaches would soon get their full allowance following House of Representatives’ ratification of the bicameral committee report on the Bayanihan Act 2.
A provision in the bill says the government will allocate P180 million for national athletes and coaches after their stipends were trimmed into half a few months ago due to the pandemic.
Once signed by President Duterte, it will undergo publication before the Department of Budget releases the allocation notice to the PSC.
