Two Filipinos advance to 'The Voice Kids UK' final round

Filipinos Justine Afante and Victoria Alsina have secured spots in the grand finals of the British version of the singing competition "The Voice Kids."

The seven-year-old Victoria is the "youngest-ever finalists" in the show's history after her coach will.i.am picked her over two candidates for her rendition of Mariah Carey's “Hero.”

“My gut is split into three equal parts. The person I'm taking through is… Victoria,” The Black Eyed Peas rapper said.

On the other hand, the 13-year-old Justine had to compete with fellow Filipino singer and co-four-chair-turner, Joshua Regala.

In the end, Justine got Pixie Lott's vote for her rendition of Whitney Houston's “One Moment In Time.”

Early this month, Bulletin Entertainment reported that aspiring Pinoy singers have been dominating “The Voice Kids” in the United Kingdom for consecutive weeks.

“I really think there's something super special in all of you. I feel so lucky and grateful that all of you are on my team. I love you all, I'm going to go with... Justine,” the Pixie commented.

Justine and Victoria will join Danny Jones's George Elliott and Paloma Faith's Dara McNicholl at the live grand finals on Aug. 29.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the pre-recorded episodes - featuring the auditions, battle rounds, and semi-final - were filmed a few weeks before the nationwide lockdown in March 2020. Then early this month, it was announced that due to the effect of the health crisis, the final will be prerecorded on Aug. 22 and broadcast a week later on Aug 29 with a virtual audience with households invited to apply to watch the episode and vote for their winner.
