Thirdy Ravena on Wednesday mourned the loss of Ateneo Blue Eagles fan and good friend Andie Cruz who was only 23 years old.
Ravena took to Instagram to pay tribute to Cruz, best remembered for receiving the winner’s medal of the UAAP Finals Most Valuable Player shortly after the Blue Eagles claimed their third straight title last season.
Cruz, who has Down’s Syndrome, is also known for watching Ateneo games on a regular basis.
“Hi Andie, was really sad when I heard the news this morning,” Ravena said. “You’ve been such a great inspiration to me and a lot of people these past few years and bringing you joy has always been a mission of mine. I wish I got to spend more time with you and I hope that in the very short time we’ve known each other, I was able to make you happy.
“You’re in a better place with Papa Jesus now, so please watch over Tita Marice (Cruz’s mother) and everyone you love. I will miss your post-game hugs, and I definitely give you the biggest one when I see you again. Til then, may you rest in peace. I love you so much, Andie,” added Ravena.
He also shared a conversation on Facebook Messenger where Cruz gave his best wishes after Ravena became a member of the San-en Neophoenix of Japan’s B.League.
“I will miss you when you go to Japan, but will be happy to watch you on livestream,” Cruz told Ravena.
“I will always pray to Papa Jesus to keep you safe. I love you Kuya Thirdy,” he added.
