The soon-to-open Apple Store in Singapore is generating a lot of buzz, mainly because of its orb-shape design to resemble a lantern floating on water -- and yes, it is on water on Singapore's Bayfront area.

TechNews resident data scientist and columnist, Wilson Chua, visits the Apple Marina Bay Sands, and shared with us his initial impressions.
"At first my concern of the Apple floating store was that it had only one entrance and exit. For safety reasons, and considering the crowd, what happens when an emergency occurs? It would be a stampede," Chua said. "Then my wife told me that there is another entrance underneath the water that connects to the stores at Marina Bay Sands."
The underwater connection between the Apple Store and the Marina Bay Sands should be interesting, as it would provide seamless transition for shoppers and tourists. We still have yet to see the interior of the underwater passage and how it would look and that's one of the many we're excited to check out in the future.

From outside, people will be able to access the floating Apple Store through the Bayfront's boardwalk. Chua commented about the absence of a roof. "There was also no overhead cover in the above water walkway," he said. "In Singapore, the weather is sunny one moment, then rainy the other. It would have been nice to have walkway cover/roof."
We're all speculating when the Apple Marina Bay Sands store will open. Chua said he saw workmen were still constructing a portion of the walkwalk.
"My guess is that they would time the opening to when Singapore opens to tourism as well," Chua said.
