UAAP: UST Tigers coach Aldin Ayo breaks silence on CJ Cansino's exit, training bubble

University of Santo Tomas men’s basketball coach Aldin Ayo finally broke his silence Sunday night regarding the controversy surrounding his squad.

Ayo said he is cooperating with the ongoing probe being done by the school, referring to the alleged unauthorized training bubble of his team in his hometown Sorsogon.

He, however, refused to make any further comments.

“Regarding the alleged ‘bubble training’ in Sorsogon, I will not comment for now as UST is already investigating the matter as well as the IATF (Inter-Agency Task Force),” the statement read.

“I am fully cooperating with the ongoing investigations and praying that in due time, this will be properly addressed.”

UST said in a statement that it is forming a fact-finding committee to dig deeper into the issue after video footages surfaced online showing its players practicing.

Under the Joint Administrative Order (JAO), only professional leagues in basketball, 3-on-3 basketball, football and boxing are allowed to resume training under General Community Quarantine in conformity with the provisions of the said order and other GAB requirements.

Ayo also wished CJ Cansino the best of luck in his future endeavors after the sophomore guard committed to University of the Philippines a day after he was removed from the squad.

“The circumstances of life today have brought out the marked difference between my orientation in life and the fundamental option of our player CJ Cansino,” Ayo said.

“We have found that it would be best that we part ways and allow maximum growth for each other. We wish him the best of providence in his new endeavor with a different team. We express our gratitude for the years and effort he poured so generously for UST.”

Overall, Ayo hoped things would get better soon in this time of the coronavirus pandemic with everyone’s cooperation.

“We fervently hope that our government, with our cooperation and active participation, find ways to effectively address the debilitating pandemic in our country so that we may be able to resume a certain normalcy where we could return to the game we passionately love and give our utmost drawing the best out of each one in pursuit of total human development,” he said.
