The ALA Boxing Gym will remain open for business despite the stunning decision of the promotional outfit bearing the same name to close operations.

ALA made the clarification to avoid confusion in relation to the closure of the Cebu City-based boxing stable that produced several boxers during its 35-year run.

“ALA Boxing & Fitness Gym is a separate business entity than ALA Promotions,” ALA Boxing Gym said on its Facebook page. Both entities are owned by Tony Aldeguer and his son Michael.

Two gyms are located in Cebu City — Banilad and F. Cabahug St., one in Lapu-Lapu City while another is located at Balete Drive in Quezon City.

Only the branch in Banilad is currently open, according to ALA Gym.

ALA made the announcement to close shop Tuesday due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic coupled with the failure of broadcast partner ABS-CBN to secure a franchise renewal from Congress.

During its run, ALA Promotions produced the likes of Edito Villamor, brothers Jason and Albert Pagara, Arthur Villanueva, Jonas Sultan, Milan Melindo and four-division world champion Donnie Nietes.
