COVID-19 positive Korean actor causes K-drama filming, plays to shut down

Korean actor Seo Sung-jong was diagnosed with coronavirus disease (COVID-19) causing the filming of two Korean dramas to stop and the cancellation of performances of two plays.

Seo Sung-jong is appearing in the KBS2 K-drama “Men are Men,” aka “To All The Guys Who Loved Me,” starring Hwang Jung-Eum and Yoon Hyun-Min.

He was diagnosed with COVID-19 on Aug. 19 after experiencing symptoms on Aug. 16 and got tested on Aug. 18. As a result the staff of the drama are in self-quarantine and being tested for the virus, and the filming has been stopped.

“After the actor tested positive, the producer and the crew who were with him on set have all gone into self-isolation and are being tested. He only participated in shooting once, and the lead actors such as Hwang Jung-eum weren’t there. The filming has all been stopped,” an insider said, according to the Korea JoongAng Daily.

“Men are Men” is a 16-episode drama that started airing on July 6 and will have its final episode on Aug. 25.

In addition, some of the staff in “Men are Men” are also working in “Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol,” another KBS drama, causing the filming to stop. “Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol” will premiere on Aug. 26 and will star Go Ara, Lee Jae-wook and Kim Joo-hun.

In addition, Seo Sung-jong is one of the cast of the plays “Jjamppong” and “Cattle.” As a result, the performances of the two plays were cancelled.

His co-stars in the plays, actors Kim Won-hae and Heo Dong-won, underwent COVID-19 testing and are under self-isolation.
