Patrick Star of 'SpongeBob SquarePants' is getting his own show

The health crisis has yet to reach Bikini Bottom, as SpongeBob Squarepants’ best friend is getting his own cartoon series called The Patrick Star Show.

Nickelodeon president, Brian Robbins, mentioned last year that the network would be developing spin-off projects with SpongeBob SquarePants characters.

Patrick Star, the guy who introduced us to the word “Wambo,” the chap who had everyone asking “is mayonnaise an instrument,” and the most comical of all the characters under the sea, will no longer be a sidekick.

The new animated program will explore the life of the good-natured and childlike pink star fish with his family. It has been said that the unemployed Patrick is getting a job as a host of a late-night talk show. Bill Fagerbakke will continue to voice him.

In an interview with cnet, Tom Kenny, voice actor of SpongBob, said that the cast has been filming their shows from each of their respective houses. Since they are able to work from home and continue the shows, Tom joked that animation seems to be “pandemic proof.”

“Cartoons are this kinda comfort-food product,” Tom says, adding, “You can make it in a different way but the end product still looks and tastes and smells the same way it ever did. It's like a Krabby Patty.”

This SpongeBob spinoff would just be one of the several new animated projects coming to Nickelodeon, along with the recently announced adaptation of Real Pigeons Fight Crime, produced by James Corden and Ben Winston, and Middlemost Post, created by SpongeBob alum John Trabbic III.

The Patrick Star Show is already in development at Nickelodeon, although there's no date yet for the premiere. One thing’s for sure, it will air on either the Nickelodeon channel or CBS All Access.
