Iloilo province rolls out COVID-19 rehabilitation plan

ILOILO CITY—The provincial government of Iloilo has rolled out its rehabilitation plan that will enable the province to bounce back from the effects of coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

This was after Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. issued an executive order on the Plan for the Rehabilitation and Transformation of the Province to Catalyze Recovery (Plan RT-PCR) that covers the province’s 42 towns and a component city.

“It shall focus on restoring money being withdrawn from the local economy, promoting confidence and safety in people circulation, and protecting their psychosocial welfare,” said Defensor.

Foremost, the provincial government will be beefing up health programs with focus on boosting capacity of COVID-19 teams, while prioritizing the upgrading of infrastructure, and hiring of additional personnel in the 12 district hospitals.

In terms of economy, the provincial government wants to revitalize industries and livelihood that suffered a slump during strict lockdown. It includes programs for the agriculture and fishery sectors and a push for technology-based methods in marketing.

The Iloilo provincial government will implement the Program for the Resilience of Iloilo in Mind and Emotion (PRIME) to address collective anxiety and emotional stress. Data shows that 50 suicide cases have been recorded for the first eight months of the year.
