Western Visayas stations being prepared to become vaccine centers

ILOILO CITY – Police Regional Office (PRO-6) has started to prepare for the utilization of police stations across Western Visayas region as vaccination centers once the vaccine for coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is made available.

PRO-6 Director Brigadier General Rene Pamuspusan has started by assessing facilities in police stations in the region, in compliance with directive of President Duterte.

And according to Pamusupusan’s initial assessment, there are only 68 police stations, out of the 147 stations in the region, which is comprised of Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental provinces as well as the highly urbanized cities of Iloilo and Bacolod, that have been built within standards, and could serve as vaccine centers.

PRO-6 data also showed that 12 stations were under construction in towns in Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, and Iloilo provinces.

Pamuspusan has directed police chiefs and station commanders with to convince the leadership of local government units (LGUs) to donate plots of land where vaccine centers could be built.

Citing the Department of Budget and Management (DBM), Pamuspusan said funding will be prioritized as police stations are part of frontline services.
