PVL still waiting for DOH, IATF nod

Alyssa Valdez and the rest of the Premier Volleyball League players would have to wait a bit longer for practices and games to resume.

League organizer Ricky Palou, president of Sports Vision, said they are still waiting for confirmation from the Department of Health and the Inter-Agency Task Force regarding their request to restart training and competition after several sports and leagues were approved.

Palou initially reached out to the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) for their request, but the government sports agency advised them to directly talk to the DOH office under Secretary Francisco Duque III.

“Sec. Duque or his representative will then involve the PSC and GAB (Games and Amusement Board) in the decision-making,” Palou told Manila Bulletin.

PVL is composed of amateur and semi-professional players under its three-conference format: the Collegiate Conference, Reinforced Conference and Open Conference.

Recently, PSC, GAB and DOH released a Joint Administrative Order (JAO) providing guidelines in conducting physical and sports activities during the coronavirus pandemic, covering non-professional sports under the jurisdiction of the PSC, professional sports under GAB, and non-professional persons in sports like athletes, coaches, trainers, promoters and other parties involved in the conduct of sports like venue management, local government units, schools and workplaces.

Palou said they are still waiting for official word.

The PVL plans to hold at least one conference this year to slowly bring back the league and the sport to fans.
