ONE: Brazilian Fabricio Andrade submits Fil-Kiwi Mark Abelardo

Debut win for Andrade, second straight loss for Abelardo

Filipino-Kiwi fighter Mark Abelardo suffered his second straight loss after yielding to Brazilian foe Fabricio Andrade in their catch weight (67kg) mixed martial arts bout in the ONE: No Surrender undercard Friday at the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand.

Andrade went aggressive in the second round and found the perfect opportunity to lock a rear-naked choke on Abelardo, putting him to sleep for the submission win at the 1:11 mark.

Experience proved to be not a hindrance for the 22-year-old Andrade and used his reach advantage instead to land several speedy jabs and hooks to the much older and veteran foe in the first round.

Abelardo, 28, tried to take Andrade down in the first round but the Brazilian muay thai specialist was quick on his foot to counter the Filipino-Kiwi’s attempt.

Another Abelardo take down attempt paved the way for Andrade to execute the rear-naked choke.

The win marked Andrade’s debut in ONE Championship on a high note and improved his MMA record to 4-2 while Abelardo, who lost to American Troy Worthen last February, now holds a 19-8 slate.

ONE: No Surrender, the first event since the promotion went on a four-month hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic, was held in a closed-door and audience-free setup. (Jan Carlo Anolin)
