Singer and army reservist Ronnie Liang paid his last respects to the soldiers killed by police officers in Jolo, Sulu.

“When they told me about the killing of 4 soldiers, sobra akong nalungkot. Very heartbreaking. They were just doing their job and purpose, tapos biglang ganun na lang ang nangyari. I pray for their souls. I pray for their families. They were our heroes,” he said in a statement quoted by ABS-CBN News.

Ronnie praised them for dying while in the service of the country.

“We will never forget their names: Army Major Marvin Indammog, Army Captain Irwin Managuelod, Army Sergeant Jaime Velasco, and Army Corporal Abdal Asula… They were good, dedicated men in uniform.”

In tribute, Ronnie recorded the '80s song “Awit Kawal."

“'Awit Kawal' is so touching.

We should be helping and lifting each other.”
