Angel Locsin, Aiko Melendez defend public utility drivers

Angel Locsin has acknowledged the significant contributions of jeepney drivers to the country's mass transportation. 

She posted on Instagram a photo of jeepney drivers, who were gravely affected due to imposition of lockdown caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

 
A netizen commented on the photo asking if Angel, herself, experienced riding a jeepney.  He also questioned why jeepney drivers are seemingly against modernization proposed by the government. 


Acknowledging that jeepneys should be road ready, the actress said it is also best for the government to hear the concerns of the drivers. 


"Lumaki akong nag-commuter... bigyan mo lang ng pagkakataon na pakinggan yung mga hinaing ng mga kababayan nating jeepney drivers," she said.

Meanwhile, Aiko Melendez reproached social media "influencer" Buknoy, who received backlash recently for what many deemed as "classist" remarks. 

In the now-viral video, Buknoy can be seen telling his fans to work harder in life unless they become like tricycle drivers, one of whom passed by in front of him as he was shooting the video uploaded on YouTube.

He has since apologized but some netizens still won't let him off the hook.

 “Before you made a mark you started as a nobody. And there is nothing wrong with that. Sometimes low profile life is more peaceful. But then, you got lucky and had your break and became an "influencer" (whatever that means),” Aiko began. 


She went on: “Darling, people who make an honest living, be it the President of a nation or a tricycle driver is a dignified work and it doesn't deserve to be looked down on. But I guess you do not know the word "dignity" since you obviously don't have one.

“Next time you look down on people, take a good look at yourself and truly see what you really are and where your dignity lies. You just lost my vote. And I know a lot will follow. As the saying goes, 'be good to people on your way up, because they're the same people you will see on your way down.' Tsk! Influencer daw."
