PH singers based in Ireland advances to WCOPA semi-finals

A group composed of four-Filipino teens living in Ireland are competing at the 24th Annual World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA) in Anaheim, California.

The Brightlights are composed of Joshua Regala, Marby Arriola, Fiona Cassandra Vargas, and Gwenaelle Noval. They’ve made it to the Junior Group Division of WCOPA.

"Congratulations The Brightlights (of MelGMedia) For making it in the to the Semi-Finals of World Championship of Performing Arts 2020. Let’s All Hope and Pray we Make it To The Finals this Saturday out of 72 Countries Around the World. We are so Proud of You All getting in to All the Categories," read a post on the group’s Facebook page.

According to previous reports, The Brightlights' young national prize-winners and titleholders are trained and managed by Melissa Ferraren, the Filipina owner of MelGMedia Events and Productions.

The group is said to be the first Filipino band in Ireland to stage a "sold-out concert" in Dublin late last year.

Because of the global pandemic, 2020 WCOPA is being launched as a virtual competition from July 24 to Aug. 2. Among the competition categories are acting, dance, instrumental, vocal, vocal self-accompaniment, model, and variety arts.
