1,531 new COVID-19 cases on July 3 is new highest single-day spike --- DOH
The Philippines has logged another highest single-day spike in coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases with 1,531 new infections reported on Friday.
With the new infections, the number of confirmed cases is now at 40,336, the Department of Health said.
The new cases topped the previous highest daily count last June 23 at 1,150 cases.
The country also reported a new record-high for COVID-19 recoveries in a single-day. The DOH said that 400 new patients survived from the disease, taking the number of recoveries to 11,073. The previous high-record was last June 16 with 301 recoveries.
However, six more patients died, raising the death toll to 1,280.
The DOH data also showed that the number of “fresh cases” or patients who tested positive within the last three days were 688. The National Capital Region accounted for 255, followed by Central Visayas with 138. Also included in the count were 271 cases from other regions while 24 repatriates tested positive.
The DOH, meanwhile, said that there were 843 late cases or patients who tested positive four days ago or earlier. Of this classification, Central Visayas had 163 cases, followed by NCR with 158. Moreover, 514 cases were detected in other regions while eight repatriates were found positive.
The DOH said that its data processing is now “back to 24 hours.” To note, fewer cases were reported on Thursday, July 2, with only 294 cases because of the temporary adjustment in its data processing.
“Data extraction and analysis time is back to 24 hours. Yesterday’s was shortened as we had to shift to a new data extraction system to better accommodate data submission from reporting units,” the agency said.
