Too good to be true: ₱700 cabinet

Online shopping fail proves that you have to ‘measure before you purchase’

It’s the “steal” of the pandemic! Imagine a cabinet, which is usually worth ₱7,000 to ₱10,000, retailing online for only ₱700. Yes, ₱700! Now, you start imagining all the decluttering that you can do with two or three ₱700-cabinets at your home. After clicking the “add to cart” and “purchase” buttons, you eagerly wait for the day when a group of delivery men would carry that huge thing inside your house.

This is the situation of Gio Lumines and his mom, who purchased this cabinet through an e-commerce platform, which is the safest and most convenient way to shop at the moment. The fact that it was priced at just over ₱700 made them feel like “winners” of a noontime game show.

The package that was delivered to their residence, however, was smaller—way, way smaller—than they expected.

“Nagtaka siya kung bakit may nag-deliver ng box na maliit (My mom wondered why there was a delivery of a small box),” Gio recalled in his now-viral Facebook post. “Hindi niya alam kung ano ‘yung in-order niya na ganun. ‘Yung cabinet pala! (She didn’t know what she ordered that was that size. It turned out to be the cabinet!”

The cabinet, which has multiple drawers and compartments, turned out to be no bigger than Gio's hand, as seen in a photo he shared showing the actual size of the item.

While it’s normal to feel taken aback or disappointed at such an online shopping fail, Gio simply shrugged it off and said, “‘Di bale, cute naman (It's all right, it's cute)."
