Pinay's quest to recover stolen teddy bear moves Ryan Reynolds to offer $5,000 reward

Like the superhero Green Lantern that he had played in the movies, Ryan Reynolds helps people in real life---most recently, a Pinay.

In a report by CBC News BC, the bear owned by 28-year-old Filipina Mara Soriano was stolen while she was moving into a new apartment in Vancouver, Canada last week.

It’s not just any teddy bear, though: It contains a recording of Mara’s late mother saying, “I love you, I'm proud of you, I'll always be with you." 

Her mother died of cancer in 2019.

"It's just the last thing I have of hers. It has her voice on it. ...And when you miss someone that much, sometimes you need to hear that," Mara said in the report.

When news about it reached Ryan, he tweeted to his millions of Twitter followers this message: "I think we all need this bear to come home." 

The Hollywood actor also offered $5,000 (or 250,000 php) to anyone who could return the bear to Mara.

“Vancouver: $5,000 to anyone who returns this bear to Mara. Zero questions asked. I think we all need this bear to come home,” read Ryan’s tweet.

Mara’s latest tweet on July 29 has her thanking everyone pitching in to help. She also made a call for donations to Sunnybrook Palliative Care in her mother’s name as the people in the facility “treated my family with so much kindness and compassion in my mom’s last couple of months.”    

 As of writing, the stolen bear has not yet been recovered. According to one of Mara’s tweets, “Build-a-bear got in contact with me and so did Herschel about replacing the things that were taken.”

“I know it won’t be the same bear that my mom made with her own hands, but now it’ll remind me of her AND the time the world came together for us for a few days.”
