BTS' 'Bang Bang Con' sets new Guinness World Records title for most viewed livestream concert

K-pop boy band BTS’ “Bang Bang Con: The Live” held last month set a new Guinness World Records title for the most viewers for a music concert live stream.

“756,000 fans from over 100 countries tuned in to the online performance on June 14th, which included a 12 song setlist and some interluding chat between the seven band members, all being broadcast live from Seoul, South Korea,” according to Guinness.

K-pop online concerts have become popular since the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) caused travel restrictions around the world.

“Accessibility to the livestream was via WeVerse, a South Korean app and website, with tickets going on sale for US $25. The concert was held as part of their 7th anniversary celebrations before the release of their fourth Japanese language album, ‘Map of the Soul: 7-The Journey,’” Guinness added.

Guinness World Records added that “BTS currently hold multiple Guinness World Records titles including the first K-pop act to reach number one on the US album chart, best selling album (South Korea) and most twitter engagements.”

The concert, watched by about 756,600 fans from 107 countries and regions, earned at least $19.74 million, or P993 million, based on the ticket cost of $26.09 alone. Tickets were also sold at $35.10 each.

“Bang Bang Con: The Live” achieved the highest number of viewers among online K-pop concerts that have been held so far this year. The total number of viewers was 15 times more than stadium performances which can accommodate 50,000 people.
