PSC chairman Butch Ramirez back on the saddle

The workload during his first day in office after a four-week furlough was extra-heavy.

But Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chairman Butch Ramirez didn’t mind carrying the burden of putting his agency in order.

Ramirez, who was on leave to attend to his wife who had been hospitalized, was on working mode the entire Monday.

“I didn’t mind because it is our responsibility to make sure we have things in place,” said Ramirez.

Last week, the PSC was rocked to the core when a personnel was charged with committing payroll fraud.

The National Bureau of Investigation has stepped in to help the PSC resolve the matter.

“That overwhelmed what the PSC has gained the last four years,” said Ramirez, who has vowed to dig deeper into the controversy.

“We have informed the Office of the Executive Secretary and we have asked the SolGen to help us take whatever the person has acquired during the last few years,” said Ramirez.

The suspect, who has been with the PSC since 2011, receives a monthly salary of P21,000.

But since 2015, he has apparently gotten a total of P14 million from funds that were supposed to have been given to athletes and coaches.

Ramirez has vowed to make those who are involved pay for their misdeeds.
