La Union lists 1 COVID-19 death, 7 new cases

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union – The Department of Health-Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD) in Region 1 confirmed on Monday, July 20, seven new cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19), including one fatality, in this city, and Caba town.

The fatality was a 67-year-old male from Barangay San Agustin here, who manifested symptoms of the disease but refused to be admitted to hospital. His swab sample was taken on July 18, and died on July 19. He was buried July 20. 

The five others who were infected included a 16-year-old female from Baranay San Agustin, a 29-year old female and 31-year-old male from Barangay Tanqui, a 41-year-old female from Barangay Canaoay, and a 72-year-old male from Barangay Lingsat.

In a statement posted by the city government on social media, the barangays where they came from have been placed under heightened community quarantine (HCQ), and all households will be placed under strict monitoring to ensure containment of the virus.

In Caba town, a 41-year-old male from Barangay Bautista tested positive for the coronavirus after traveling from Manila. 

Caba is now under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) until July 25 upon the request of the provincial government of La Union, and approved by the Regional Inter-Agency Task Force for COVID-19 (RIATF).

In all, there are now 14 COVID-19 cases in this city, and nine in Cava.

As of July 21, La Union has 57 cases, 26 of whom are in hospitals, 19 have been discharged, five under strict home quarantine, and seven have died.
