Western Visayas posts most number of COVID-19 recoveries in a day

ILOILO CITY—A few days after posting its highest single-day number of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases, Western Visayas region recorded the most number of recoveries in one day.

The Department of Health (DOH-6) recorded 63 new recoveries on Friday, July 17, that brought its total to 345 recoveries.

Dr. Marie Jocelyn Te , DOH-6 chief for emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases, said the new recoveries included Western Visayas’ youngest COVID-19 case, which was a two-month old boy from Moises Padilla town, Negros Occidental.

From the 716 total COVID-19 cases in Western Visayas, Te said the recovery rate was already at 48 percent.

And this meant that there were only 359 active cases in the region, which is comprised of Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental provinces as well as the highly urbanized cities of Iloilo and Bacolod.

The DOH-6 data also revealed that 89 percent off the cases in the region were asymptomatic, and many of the COVID-19 cases recovered without hospitalization.
