NBA: Filipino artist 'honored' to be part of Vince Carter tribute website

Filipino graphic designer AJ Dimarucot's art has been featured in NBA Canada's tribute website to basketball legend Vince Carter.

Dimarucot, in an interview over CNN Philippines on Tuesday night, said he feels honored to represent the Philippines in feting Carter.

"It feels great. It's such an honor and I'm super proud. I'm super proud to represent the Philippines in this honoring of a great legend. Hopefully people liked it," Dimarucot added, sharing that Carter became his favorite player after Michael Jordan hung up his jersey.

The artist added basketball fans can download or print a 16x24 poster of his Carter art for free in the league's website.

Dimarucot hopes Carter can personally sign the graphic art he made. "He retweeted one of the Raptors' tweets with my design on it, so hopefully one day he can sign it."

Another Filipino artist Jayson Atienza was also handpicked by the NBA to do another art tribute for Carter.

"Extremely honored to be 1 of 15 artists from around the world to work on NBA Canada #ThankYouVince campaign and help celebrate Vince Carter's retirement!" Atienza wrote on Instagram.

Carter, also known for his nicknames "Vinsanity" and "Half Man, Half Amazing," formally retired last June 25 after a 22-year career -- the longest in NBA history.

The 43-year-old veteran was originally drafted by the Raptors in 1999. He played for various teams like the New Jersey Nets, Orlando Magic and Dallas Mavericks before wrapping up his career with the Atlanta Hawks.

Carter cemented his legacy as one of the greatest dunkers of all time by scoring a perfect 50 in four of his five attempts during the 2000 NBA All-Star Slam Dunk contest in Oakland, California.
