American actress Mara Wilson of 'Matilda' learning to speak Filipino

American actress Mara Wilson surprised her fans recently by tweeting in TagLish (Tagalog and English), asking for the meaning of Filipino word "naman."

"Ano meaning ang 'naman'? Salamat," she wrote.

Mara added in the thread that she does not think it means "yes."

"Also I realized I’ve been continually mixing up 'ang' and 'ng,'" she confessed.

When a netizen asked if she speaks Tagalog, Mara revealed she's been learning it for a week now. She even shared an online resource she's been using.

Atty Mickey Ingles of Ateneo Law School replied to Mara. He told her about his podcast that teaches conversational Filipino.

"Let me know if you want the entire catalogue! Salamat!!" he added, to which the foreign star answered that would be "helpful."

Actress Saab Magalona was in "disbelief" upon reading Mara's post.

"Looool nagulat ako nag-Tagalog si Matilda," she wrote.

Mara, who rose to fame as a child for playing Natalie Hillard in 1993's "Mrs. Doubtfire" and went on to play Susan Walker in 1994's "Miracle On 34th Street," played Matilda Wormwood in 1996's "Matilda."
