China, PH to pursue more areas of cooperationChinese Foreign Ministry

MABASA China expressed its wish to work with the Philippine government to implement the consensus between President Rodrigo Duterte and Chinese President Xi Jinping, properly resolve disputes through peaceful and friendly consultation, and continue to deepen and broaden practical cooperation in various areas. The Chinese Foreign Ministry issued this declaration after President Duterte revealed that his Chinese counterpart warned him during their meeting in the sidelines of the Belt and Road Forum in China the previous week that there would be war if Manila tried to enforce an arbitration ruling and drill for oil in a disputed part of the South China Sea. According to Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hua Chunying, during President Duterte's visit to China, the two sides have exchanged in-depth views on the development of China-Philippines relations and other relevant issues. "The two sides have agreed to strengthen communication on major issues concerning the development of bilateral relations, lead the sound and steady development of bilateral relations in the right direction of good neighborliness and friendly cooperation, deepen across-the-board cooperation under the framework of the Belt and Road initiative, and promote common development and prosperity," said Hua in a press briefing a transcript of which was posted in the official website of the Chinese Embassy in Manila.
