PAGASA sees fair weather, isolated rains Saturday

Fair weather with isolated rainshowers will prevail over most parts of the country Saturday due to easterlies, or the warm winds from the Pacific Ocean, and localized thunderstorms, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration said Friday.

PAGASA weather specialist Meno Mendoza said that the two weather systems will bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers in Metro Manila and the rest of the country mostly in the afternoon or evening.

PAGASA warned residents on affected areas that flash floods or landslides are possible during severe thunderstorms.

Mendoza added that the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) will continue to affect the southern portion of Mindanao this weekend. According to PAGASA, the ITCZ is the converging of winds coming from the northeast and southeast which triggers thunderstorms and rain showers.

Despite the expected occasional rains, the State weather bureau said it has not monitored any low-pressure area looming near the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

The State weather agency earlier said that two to four tropical cyclones may enter PAR this month but they are not expected to directly affect the country.

The onset of the rainy season in the country was announced by PAGASA last month following the occurrence of scattered thunderstorms, a tropical depression, and the southwest monsoon or “habagat” which have poured a significant amount of rains over the western section of Luzon and Visayas.

Meanwhile, sea conditions will be light to moderate this weekend, and fisherfolk using small boats can set sail as no gale warning has been raised, PAGASA added.
