By Ellalyn De Vera-Ruiz Scattered monsoon rains will continue across parts of the Philippines on Tuesday due to the prevailing southwest monsoon or "habagat." Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) weather specialist Meno Mendoza on Monday warned of possible flash floods or landslides in areas that are highly susceptible to these hazards. By Tuesday, scattered light to moderate rains that sometimes become heavy during severe thunderstorms may prevail over some portions of Northern, Central, and Southern Luzon, Bicol Region, and Western Visayas. Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will be partly cloudy with chances of isolated afternoon or evening rain showers during severe thunderstorms. PAGASA has not issued a gale warning on Monday as it remains safe to go out into the country's coasts. Moderate seas will prevail over the western sections of Visayas and Mindanao, and slight to moderate coasts over the rest of the country. Mendoza also said PAGASA does not expect a tropical cyclone or weather disturbance near or within the Philippine area of responsibility in the next two to three days. The weather bureau earlier said the country could expect two to four tropical cyclones that may affect the country in July. This also marks the start of peak season for typhoons in the country. Tropical cyclones in July tend to make landfall over Southern and Northern Luzon or veer to the east away from the country. The next tropical cyclones will be given local names Carina, Dindo, Enteng, and Ferdie.
