Three architecture students of the University of Santo Tomas (UST) in Manila landed in the Top 10 of the ArchiNext HGC Young Designers' Competition 2020, for their designs of a community multiplex interactive space.
In a Facebook post on Monday, June 15, the university shared the works of the three students who participate in the young designers' competition.
Bridge Lee received the top prize and the best presentation for his work titled “The Bridge.” In a bearing tagline “Bridge the Gap, Close the Loop,” the work envisions a fisherman’s park for Bancal Bay.
His design considered four main factors such as children’s safety, the livelihood of fisherfolk, sustainability of resources, and the protection of the mangroves.
Meanwhile, Timothy James Arambulo, ranked seventh place, who proposed a nature art and commune park called “Daungan.”
The park comes with amenities such as the art library, art space building, service building, playground, and park benches.
Lorenzo Angelo Mauricio finished in the ninth place with his two-floor underground park, which comes complete with an underground garden and spaces.
His work is set in Welcome Rotunda, boundary of Manila and Quezon City, which aims to provide a walkable space for pedestrians in an urbanized setting.
ArchiNext is a nationwide competition that aims to “raise the bar to challenge ingenuity in a relevant and timely structure that benefits the mass.”
This year’s theme is “Ugnayan,” which refers to the central, holistic public space that aims to nurture learning, recreation, and play at the same time.
ArchiNext added that the space is envisioned to allow the “people to breathe and appreciate nature, art, culture and interpersonal communication.”
