By Armando Fenequito Jr. DAVAO CITY – Operatives of Regional Police Drug Enforcement Unit (RDEU) of Police Regional Office 11, and Talomo Police Station seized more than P800,000 worth of illegal drugs from two drug suspects in separate buy-bust operations on Saturday, May 2. RDEU 11 chief and Talomo Police Station commander Lt. Col. Ronald Lao identified the suspects as Romeo M. Monterola , 39, construction worker and Silverio J. Ocon, both residents of Santiago, Purok 3, Balusong, Barangay Matina Crossing. Lao said that, at about 11:50 am of May 2, the first team collared Monterola at Concepcion Compound, Matina Crossing, and confiscated from him about five grams of suspected shabu with an estimated amount of P80,000. After Monterola's arrest, the operatives immediately conducted a follow-up operation at Balusong 3, and nabbed Ocon with 11 sachets of shabu from his possession weighing about 46 grams with estimated amount of P736,000 and other non-drug items. Lao said the two suspects were included in Directorate for Intelligence Drug- Listed Personalities. He said despite their strong campaign to combat the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), the police continue to intensify its operation against the proliferation of illegal drugs in the region. "These police officers were clearly at an elevated risk putting themselves in harm’s way just to make our city a safer place against criminals. Along with our City Director, PCOL Kirby John B Kraft, we will continue to focus our efforts on those that perpetuate illegal activities in our region despite the coronavirus pandemic," Lao said. Lao said while all police units were working hard to sustain its commitment and mandate to continue to enforce the law.
