Oriental Mindoro COVID-19-free again after successive negative tests results

By Jerry Alcayde CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro – The province of Oriental Mindoro is once again a COVID-19-free province after the remaining confirmatory tests for positive patients yielded negative results. Oriental Mindoro Governor Humerlito A. Dolor said the repeat tests for Patient 668, a returning Filipino seafarer of Barangay Tabinay, Puerto Galera, and Patient 927, a health worker and resident of Barangay Maligaya, Gloria, turned out to be negative and both patients were declared fully recovered. The results of the second and third tests of a 76-year old female patient from Concepcion, Romblon were both negative, as confirmed by the Department of Health-MIMAROPA (Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan). Dolor also announced that the results of 30 persons from different towns and Calapan City, who were subjected to COVID-19 mass testing, were all negative. The DOH has reported 19 cases of COVID-19 confirmed cases in Oriental Mindoro which has the most number of cases in the region, followed by Occidental Mindoro with nine cases; Marinduque, 6; Romblon, 2; and Palawan, 2. The region was put under general community quarantine (GCQ) last May 16, which allowed the normal movement of people and economic activities, but everyone is still subject to strict mask-wearing, physical distancing, and other health protocols. Individuals -- mostly students -- who were stranded elsewhere and unable to return home after the government imposed a lockdown over the whole of Luzon on March 17, have started returning to the province and were required to present at the port of entry such as Batangas Port, a medical certificate from their place of origin and a travel authority from the Joint Task Force CV Shield. Dolor also approved the lifting of the liquor ban over the whole province, but the purchasing of liquor is allowed only on certain hours of Friday and Saturday. He reminded his constituents that drinking is limited to four persons only and drinking in public places, including garages and terraces in homes, is still prohibited.
