'Prayer is our connection to God' – Bishop

(CBCP / MANILA BULLETIN) “In prayer, we turn to God and entrust everything to His mercy and power. God is always in control. He will end this pandemic. Prayer is our connection to God,” said Balanga Bishop Ruperto C. Santos. Yesterday, Filipino Catholics joined Pope Francis and the more than a billion Roman Catholics yesterday, May 14, for prayer, fasting, and charity work to put an end to the corona virus disease pandemic. In a diocesan directive, Santos called on the faithful “to be one with the Holy Father in praying, fasting, and doing acts of charity for the healing of the world against the COVID-19 pandemic. Let us turn to God. Let us connect to Him through our prayers,” the prelate said. Santos said, the act of fasting is “our sacrifice to God. When we fast, we surrender our desires and cravings. We let God fill us with His spirit.” Santos also encouraged the faithful to “share and do charity work as our act of love for others. We should help each other particularly in this time of crisis.” The Holy Father Pope Francis called on all religious leaders “to pray as one to end the pandemic” on May 14. The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), for its part, encouraged the faithful “to join the inter-religious activity to pray for an end to the world health crisis.
