OCD distributes more PPE sets to frontliners

By Martin Sadongdong The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) has delivered the second and third batches of personal protective equipment (PPEs) procured by the Department of Health (DOH) for health workers and other frontliners fighting the 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19), it announced on Black Saturday. Jalad said the PPE sets were transferred to the Office of Civil Defense headquarters at Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City to facilitate the distribution to hospitals and quarantine centers attending to COVID-19 patients. "Each batch consisted of 12,000 PPE sets which were distributed to various hospitals," Jalad said. Seven hospitals in Metro Manila, one regional hospital in Central Luzon, and a quarantine center in Manila were the beneficiaries of the second batch of China-made PPEs. They were the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM), Manila Doctor's Hospital, Marikina Valley Medical Center, Veterans Memorial Medical Center, Quezon City General Hospital, Manila Central University (MCU) Hospital, Quezon Institute, and Jose B. Lingad Memorial Regional Hospital in San Fernando, Pampanga. The Ninoy Aquino Stadium at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila, which was converted to a quarantine center, also received protective equipment sets from the second batch of PPEs. Meanwhile, the third batch of PPEs were turned over to nine hospitals in Metro Manila and one hospital each in Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), Ilocos (Region 1), and Calabarzon (Region 4A). These were Tondo Medical Center, National Children's Hospital, Rizal Medical Center, Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center, Las Pinas General Hospital and Satellite Trauma Center, National Kidney and Transplant Institute, San Lorenzo Ruiz Women's Hospital, National Center for Mental Health, Quirino Memorial Medical Center, Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center, Ilocos Regional Training Medical Center in La Union, and Batangas Medical Center. It can be recalled that the first batch of the PPEs bought by the DOH from China arrived last March 31. Each set has goggles, coverall suit, head cover, gloves, shoe cover, surgical mask, and surgical gown.
