8 Negros solons seek clarification from DOH on protocols

BACOLOD CITY - Eight congressmen from Negros Occidental and Bacolod City sent a letter to Health Secretary Francisco Duque III, asking clarification on the protocol or guidelines being invoked by the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) here pursuant to a shared goal of barring the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic in the country.

The letter was signed by Congressmen Greg Gastaya, Leo Rafael Cueva, Juliet Marie Ferrer, Genaro Alvarez Jr., Gerardo Valmayor Jr., Francisco Benitez, Ma. Lourdes Arroyo, and Joseph Stephen Paduano.
In a letter dated March 18, the congressmen said that the CLMMRH management has a number of concerns hindering the efficient operation of the government hospitals such as the continuous and consistent flow of supply chain of medical supplies, need for further universal transport medium (UTM) or swab confirmation of patients under investigation (PUIs), protocol for sending swabs out from the province, holding of medical supplies from Metro Manila, need for equipment to assay UTMs, and need for Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) to make regular trips for logistics of medical supplies if necessary.
The CLMMRH is a tertiary teaching-training hospital here that serves as the sole-end referral and premier tertiary hospital that offers specialized medical care for the entire province, as stated in the letter.
It has become paramount to the efforts of the province against COVID-19, as the leading institution in the testing and quarantine of Persons Under Investigation (PUIs) and Persons Under Monitoring (PUMs), the congressmen said in a letter.
Gasataya said that they were seeking the attention of the DOH to provide them also with the necessary medical supplies and test kits for patients here with suspected infection of COVID-19.
“We are hoping that the DOH officials will also give attention and focus to the province,” he said, adding that the battle against the viral disease is not easy, especially to those with limited medical supplies.
