Maguindanao 2nd district Rep. Esmael Mangudadatu on Thursday made a poignant appeal to his fellow Filipinos to share what they have with the less fortunate amid the hardships and uncertainties caused by the 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

“Kung may maitutulong kayong pagkain, inumin, gamot, o pera — gaano pa man 'yan kaliit — ay makakatulong na ito sa ating kapwa to tide them to their next meal (If you have anything to offer, food, drinks, medicine, or money--no matter how little it is--that will help our fellowman to tide them to their next meal)," Mangudadatu said.
"Hindi po lahat ay may kakayahang makapagsubi ng mga pangunahing pangangailangan para sa mas mahabang araw sa panahong ito (Not everyone has the ability to stock up on basic needs for the long run, during this time)," the solon noted. "I appeal to your hearts to open them for others and share whatever we can extend.”
Mangudadatu made the call as three COVID-19 cases were confirmed in Mindanao as of March 18.
The congressman said local government units down south should be prepared in the event that the number of patients continue to increase. There have been over 200 cases of the deadly illness recorded all over the country.
Meanwhile, Mangundadatu also reminded Filipinos to adhere to the government's directives when it comes to the overall effort to stop the contagion.
“Nananawagan ako na habaan pa natin ang ating mga pasensya at karagdagang pangunawa sa paghihirap na dulot sa atin ng sakit na ito. Makatutulong din ng malaki kung susunod tayo sa mga tagubilin ng ating pamahalaan upang hindi na mas kumalat pa ang virus sa ating komunidad lalong-lalo na sa ating mga mahal sa buhay,” Mangudadatu said.
(I appeal for more patience and understanding on the hardships that we face because of this disease. It will also help a lot if we follow the government's instructions to prevent the spread of the virus in our communities, especially among our loved ones.)
Under the enhanced community quarantine over Luzon, citizens have been instructed by the government to stay in their homes and observe social distancing so as not to give the virus the opportunity to spread.
Mangundadatu's colleague in the 18th Congress, ACT-CIS Party-List Rep. Niña Taduran, echoed the appeal for Filipinos to follow the precautionary measures laid down by government.
“We should all be responsible with our actions. Do not panic and do not spread fear. Stay at home if you can or practice social distancing, at least one arm’s length from each other. There will be regular delivery of goods, and business operations in Metro Manila will continue despite the community quarantine, so everyone shouldn’t worry,” Taduran said.
