Maj. Rosalino Ibay, chief of the Manila Police District-Special Mayor's Reaction Team, identified the suspect as Alexander Ogdamina, alias "Kalbo," 36, jobless, resident of the said area.
Elements of Police Station 5 of the Manila Police District (MPD) nabbed the suspect at the Baseco Compound in Port Area, Manila at around 7:10 p.m. on Wednesday.
Ogdamina shot pares mami vendor Samson Bautista, 41, on the neck after he refused to hand over his bag, a closed circuit television (CCTV) footage showed.
Manila City Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso, who went to the MPD following the suspect's arrest, said Bautista is still at the Intensive Care Unit of the Gat Andres Bonifacio Memorial Medical Center.
The victim's kin, who were overcome with emotion upon seeing the suspect, hit him several times. They also stressed that they will be pressing charges against Ogdamina.
Despite asking for "patience" from the victim's family, Ogdamina said those who will be held up should just give up their possessions since holduppers follow through with their threats to shoot.
"Baka akala kasi nila sa mga tulad namin, akala nila nagbibiro kami. 'Di kami nagbibiro. Pag sinabi namin, ginagawa namin 'yon (Maybe they think that people like us are just joking. We're not. When we say it, we do it)," he told reporters.
"Hindi naman kailangan manguha ng buhay (We don't have to claim lives)," he added. "Nakita niyo naman sa CCTV, kung binigay naman sakin 'yon, hindi ko papaputukan (If he only gave me his bag, I wouldn't have shot him)."
The suspect admitted to using illegal drugs, but said he did not use the stolen money to buy drugs.
Ogdamina, who is now under police custody, will be facing appropriate charges.
