Case probers from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said at least P15 million in properties, including the portion of the Skyway Stage 3, were damaged when the fire that hit the San Miguel Yamamura Packaging Corp. on Tomas Claudia Street.
No casualty was reported and no families were affected.
The fire started at about 10:38 a.m., reaching Task Force Bravo by 11:05 a.m., BFP said. It was finally put under control by 1:52 p.m. and declared fire out by 2:52 p.m., the fire bureau added.
In a statement, Skyway Corporate Communications head Marlene Ochoa said: “Stage 3 is still under construction and therefore, not operational.”
“We are still assessing the extent of damage,” she added.
Superintendent Roberto Samillano Jr., Manila deputy fire marshal, said the fire allegedly started at a stack pile of plastic pallets placed at the open space under the Skyway extension project.
Philippine National Railway General Manager Junn Magno said their Train Control Office coordinated for the partial operations of PNR trains since there is a nearby PNR station in the area.
“We allowed fire trucks to access the right-of-way to mitigate and contain the fire,” he said.
The Manila Public Information Office, citing reports it received from the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, said a portion of Zamora Bridge was also affected.
At the height of the fire, Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso, in a live variety show, assured
the public not to worry as the BFP and the DRRMO are prepared for the matter.
