TRB: Nothing new about glitches

Glitches in the cashless toll system, like the one which North Luzon Expressway Corporation (NLEX Corp) admitted to, are "not new," the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB ) declared in its statement issued late last night (December 8, 2020).

Such glitches are "subject to notices to correct", the TRB management stressed.

However, the case of Valenzuela City's cancellation of NLEX Corp.'s business permit is "a matter between the City of Valenzuela and the NLEX Operator", the board pointed out.

"We have been assured that this is being given appropriate attention and we hope it will be resolved very soon."

TRB will impose penalties, even suspend toll collection by Toll Operators who continue to violate the Implementing Rules & Regulations (IRR) in the implementation of the cashless transaction on toll expressways.

Already, the Continuing Operations & Systems audit in the enforcement of cashless transaction in toll plazas identified glitches.

These glitches have been brought to the attention of the toll operators, according to the TRB.

In addition, the regulator has identified the measures which operators need to take "to achieve least inconvenience in this program intended to help stop the spread of coronavirus".

The TRB ordered toll operators to immediately replace worn out or defective sensors(readers), related Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) equipment and tags.

In addition, the board ordered toll operators to relocate or reposition RFID installation and reloading lanes that hamper traffic flow, upgrade their systems software, enhance traffic management and mprove customer service assistance.
