Pru Life sets up Virtual Challenge this month

The stage is set for the PruRide Virtual Challenge on Pulse, which kicks off this month and serves as the “new normal” and online version of the PruRide PH, the country’s biggest cycling festival.

The event will be powered by Pulse, Pru Life UK’s all-in-one health management app, and will provide all cyclists, enthusiasts and families the experience of fun and safe cycling.

“These challenging times have highlighted the benefits of cycling. Not only is the activity an antidote to our mostly sedentary lifestyle, but it is also an ideal mode of transportation that promotes social distancing,” Pru Life UK senior vice president and chief customer marketing officer Allan Tumbaga told the Tuesday webcast of the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum.

“These advantages encourage us to go ahead with our annual PRURide PH, but in a way that is more attuned to the new normal,” added Tumbaga in the forum presented by San Miguel Corp., Go For Gold, MILO, Amelie Hotel Manila, Braska Restaurant, and the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR).

All Pulse Android users who have availed of the free premium subscription can join the virtual challenge to be staged in partnership with Garmin smart watch, a fitness band that can be easily synchronized with Pulse to track the participants’ performances.

By using Garmin or other Pulse-compatible wearables available on Android, even stationary bike users will be able to feel the adrenaline rush of an official rider.

Cyclists only need to download the Pulse mobile app on any Android device, sign up for a free premium subscription, and sync it with a Pulse-compatible wearable, such as a Garmin, Google Fit and Fitbit.

“It will be fun and challenging,” said Tumbaga in the forum presented by Smart and with Upstream Media as official webcast partner.

Last year’s event held in normal times attracted 3,000 participants. But because of this year’s online format, organizers expect an even bigger number.

“Unlike before when the event was limited to the Clark area, cyclists can join this year’s event from anywhere in the country, whether they are from Apari or Jolo,” said Tumbaga.
