No sign of slowing down as De los Santos nails 26th gold

The drive for James De los Santos to remain at No. 1 in the world ranking remains on track as he dominated another e-tournament with his victory in the 3rd leg of the 2020 Venice Cup as results were posted by the World Karate Federation (WKF) Sunday.

De los Santos defeated in the final round Alfredo Bustamante of the United State, 25.9.25.1, for his 26th gold medal since joining the online karate tournaments last April.

The gold medal was the seventh for the 30-year-old De los Santos, which matched the seven he won in two of the last three months in September and October.

“I’m happy winning my 26th gold medal. It’s bringing me closer to my goal of reaching at least 30 gold medals before the end of the year,” said De los Santos, a former national team member who won a bronze medal in the 2017 Southeast Asian Games.

“Not only that, but I’ve also won the Grand Winner title of the Venice Cup. It’s really an amazing feeling.”

After he earned a bye in the quarterfinal, De los Santos downed Silvio Cerone-Biogioni in the semifinal round 24.8.24.2.

With several more events to be played this month, De los Santos has already triumphed in the 4th Katana Intercontinental League e-Tournament, the Golden League, the Athletes E-Tournament Cash Award Series 2, the NOX Dojo Markham City Open and the Okinawa E-Tournament World Series 2.
