Jarvey Gayoso set to play for top Thai club

Jarvey Gayoso is close to signing a deal to play for one of Thailand’s top clubs following an impressive professional debut in the recent Philippines Football League season.

The Azkals Development Team announced Saturday that Gayoso is finalizing a move to Muangthong United, a four-time winner in Thailand’s top division.

“It’s not over the line yet, but it’s close and it’s an excellent move for him,” said ADT coach Scott Cooper, who handled Muangthong United in 2014.

Gayoso, the son of former Ginebra player Jayvee Gayoso and grandson of basketball and football great Ed Ocampo, scored four goals to during the PFL season that saw ADT finish third behind champion United City and runner-up Kaya-Iloilo.

He started the shortened season at left back before reverting back to his old role of playing in front, resulting in three ADT victories.

A stint in Thailand will likely benefit Gayoso while joining a group of Filipino footballers suiting up in the domestic league.

Among the notable players are Javi Patino (Ratchaburi), Patrick Reichelt and Patrick Deyto (Suphanburi), Carli de Murga (Chonburi) and Michael Falkesgaard (Bangkok United).

OJ Porteria, who helped United City capture the PFL title, is also set to play in Thai League but no word yet on where the midfielder will suit up.

“I think it’s a great step up for him to go to the Thai League,” said Cooper. “He’s being picked up as a midfielder which was where he ended up in his stint at ADT. I think we finally found the right position for him.”
