Firecracker ban violators in Caloocan City face fine, 6 months imprisonment – Mayor Malapitan

The use of firecrackers and other pyrotechnic devices are not allowed in Caloocan City this holiday season, Mayor Oca Malapitan reminded his constituents Tuesday (December 29).

As the New Year's Day celebration nears, Malapitan said Ordinance No. 0648 S. 2016 provides that violators of the ban shall be meted a P5,000 fine and imprisonment of up to six months for every offense.

This is in line with Resolution No. 20-17 S. 2020 passed by the Metro Manila Council, which aims to prevent mass gathering in celebrating the holiday season using firecrackers.

"Sa pagsalubong natin sa bagong taon, unahin nating isipin ang kaligtasan ng ating pamilya at sarili (As we welcome the New Year, let's prioritize our safety and of our family)," Malapitan said.

"Sa pagbabawal ng pagpapaputok, matitiyak natin na maiiwasan ang firework-related injuries at mapipigilan din ang pagkakaroon ng hawahan ng COVID-19 (By banning the use of firecrackers, we will ensure that firework-related injuries and more COVID-19 infection will be prevented)," he added.

The mayor also said that a copy of the executive order will be furnished the heads of the city's barangays for compliance.
