A farm-to-market road in Nueva Ecija was recently completed to provide better transport of various agricultural produce in the province, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said Tuesday.

The 1.6-kilometer road was constructed in Barangay Balaring in the municipality of General Mamerto Natividad.
Public Works and Highways Mark Villar said that the new road will boost agricultural production and economic activities in Nueva Ecija.
"It will facilitate easier transport of vegetables, mangoes, and rice from and to nearby markets," the secretary said.
According to DPWH Nueva Ecija Second District Engineer Ricardo Puno, the farm-to-market road involves concreting of a two-lane road under a P12.9-million fund under the 2020 General Appropriations Act (GAA).
Villar also commended DPWH Nueva Ecija Second District Engineering Office for the "swift completion of the project that started in August 2020 despite the hindrances brought by the pandemic."
“Not only do we aim to improve road condition to support local producers but also to ensure safe travel for motorists and residents traversing this local road,” Villar added.
Meanwhile, in the nearby province, Pampanga, a new slope protection structure along Abacan River in Angeles City was constructed to protect surrounding communities from flooding.
The 465-meter slope protection will prevent scouring along the riverbank that damages crops and properties on the low-lying plains of Barangays Pandan and Capaya in Angeles City.
“This newly-constructed project is aimed to provide stability and protection against landslide and flooding especially such as the most recent typhoons that caused overflowing of the water tributaries in Pampanga,” Villar said.
According to DPWH Pampanga Third District Engineer Tito Jesus Salvador, the P49-million project funded under the 2020 General Appropriations Act (GAA) covered the construction of a slope protection with steel sheet pile foundation to prevent river obstruction from landslide, rockslides, and flooding.
“By constructing flood control structures like this all over the country, we hope to protect lives and mitigate damage to properties, so we can focus on economic development," the secretary furthered.
